The Walking Dead Season 3, Episode 2, “Sick” Recap
Throughout the third season of The Walking Dead, several of our writers will be on a weekly rotation giving their thoughts of the most recent episode. As always, be aware of spoilers.
One thing that Vinny touched on last week was how there was such a big gap from the end of last season to the beginning of this one. I think that is extremely significant when looking at Carl Grimes. This was just a kid who was not allowed to go out on his own at all last season. Now in the first episode we see him killing walkers on his own in an abandoned house then in this past one he went out to the infirmary to get supplies and also kill a few walkers along the way all by himself. This is clearly a very big change for his character and it will be interesting to see him continue to grow up in this new world.
For anyone who was hoping for a great storyline to come together between the prison inmates and our group must be extremely disappointed. It would have been great for the show if they did throw something like that in there, but also because we would have finally had characters who we were not sure what type of past or history they had. We know what kind of person Rick or Daryl are, but the leader of the prisoners was going to be a mystery for us and now he is killed off from the show just like that.
It seems like the writers do not care so much about plots and really developing characters, but just want the viewers to be entertained by who is going to turn into a walker next. This definitely makes the show kind of stale as we are getting some of the same actions and at times the scenes just seem to be happening over and over in each episode.
One of the new developments in this season is the fact that they at least figured out a way to potentially stop a bite from turning someone into a walker. When Rick cut off Hershel’s leg, at first I thought that this was something that they discovered throughout the seasons as he chose to do this so quick. Now we found out that this does actually work and they were able to save Hershel that way. This will be interesting to watch going forward although Hershel will still be a liability with his injury.
At this point looking forward, I cannot say anything going on this season has got me waiting with anticipation for next weeks episode. It will always entertain me while I am watching it, but there is nothing that has me wondering where they will be taking this. Hopefully they prove me wrong in the next couple of episodes, but as of now I do not have much hope.
